Istra Fuhrmann

Program Associate

Istra Fuhrmann (she/her/hers) is the Program Associate at PSFG, providing support for all programs, operations, and initiatives. She is your contact for PSFG’s newsletter, the Nuclear Funders Working Group, and our work with Gender Champions for Nuclear Policy and Organizations in Solidarity.

Prior to joining PSFG, Istra worked on nuclear disarmament and Pentagon spending issues at the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL). Istra led FCNL’s legislative work on the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, seeking justice for communities harmed by U.S. nuclear testing and production. In previous positions, Istra organized for immigration justice in San Antonio, Texas and provided post-conviction relief services for incarcerated domestic violence survivors in Atlanta, Georgia. She is passionate about working creatively across sectors towards a world free from systemic harms and gendered violence. Istra graduated from Swarthmore College with degrees in international politics and Mandarin Chinese. While studying in Kunming, China, she wrote her Mandarin-language thesis on involuntary migration in Southwest China.
